Husband and wife Anthony and Catherine Sheehy launched Irish Whiskey Auctions in September 2018 with the backing of Irish publicans and whisky enthusiasts Alan Campbell and Willie Aherne.

The site “prominently” features Irish whiskey, along with other whiskies from around the world, including Scotch, American and Japanese.

After securing more than 160 bottles, Irish Whiskey Auctions hosted its first sale in September 2018. The site will host auctions monthly, with the next sale starting on 22 March, featuring a Midleton Very Rare bottling from 1988.

“Irish whiskey is the world’s fastest-growing spirits category, yet until we launched Irish Whiskey Auctions there was no platform that promoted and allowed people to both buy and sell a fantastic range of whiskey from Ireland,” said Anthony Sheehy.

“The ever-growing range of Irish whiskey will feature prominently in our auctions, but we will also welcome submissions from all great whisky distilleries worldwide.

“Our expertise, combined with the global demand for sourcing rare Irish whiskey, has seen our first couple of auctions surpass all of our expectations.”

In the UK last year, more than 100,000 bottles of rare Scotch whisky went under the hammer, according to consultancy and brokerage Rare Whisky 101.
