Theodore Gin debuts in UK

Greenwood Distillers has released its inaugural product – Theodore Gin, which was inspired by an ancient Scottish tribe.

Theodore Gin is made with 16 botanicals

The first edition of Theodore Gin was created with guidance from olfactory expert and perfume designer Barnabé Fillion, and takes inspiration from the Picts – an ancient tribe that once settled near the brand’s home in Ardross, northern Highlands, Scotland.

The gin’s name pays homage to Theodore de Bry, a 16th-century engraver who drew the Picts.

Made with 16 botanicals, including pine, damask rose, pomelo and bourbon vetiver, the gin has been distilled in a multi-stage process using an old charentais still and a rotovap.

Future batches of Theodore Gin will be produced at the new Ardross Distillery in the Scottish Highlands, which is being built at a cost of £15 million (US$19.9m). Master blender Andrew Rankin will oversee production.

Theodore Gin is said to have notes of citric pomelo, pine needles, oolong tea, fresh and dried ginger, and hints of vanilla.

Bottled at 43% abv, Theodore Gin has an RRP of £39 (US$52) per 700ml bottle. It is currently available in on-trade venues in the UK, including The Gibson, 64th & Social, The Curtain, Frenchie and Anglian Country Inns.

Barthelemy Brosseau, founder of Theodore Gin, said: “We have collaborated with an eclectic team of individuals who are pushing boundaries in their respective fields to create something special.

“Theodore pays tribute to the Picts with a bold and characterful gin that embodies the Pictish spirit. It is for anyone who is looking to whet a curious appetite.”
