London cocktail bar Oriole celebrated its third anniversary this week.

The bar, which is the second venue from the founders of famed experimental London speakeasy Nightjar, first opened its doors in 2015 and marked its birthday with an evening of live music, cocktails and canapés.

Throughout the evening, guests were treated to a selection of cocktails from the bar’s menu, including the Cape of Good Hope, which contains Plymouth Gin, white Port, buchu infusion, grapefruit liqueur and fino Sherry; and the Route Napoleon, made with Copperhead Gin, vermouth, bouquet garni infusion, dandelion cordial, RinQuinQuin a la Peche and lemon juice.

Following a viral campaign to select two explorers to travel the world in the name of Mr Fogg’s Residence, the London bar chain has welcomed back Jessica Last and Charlie Wild from The Travel Project.

The pair were back in London this week at Mr Fogg’s Society of Exploration to talk about their travels and unveil a cocktail inspired by the trip.

The cocktail is made with Bombay Sapphire Gin, infused monsoon tea, prickly pear, yuzu tonic and fresh lemon. It has been garnished with lemon sorrel and edible insects melted in honey.

Madison Rooftop in London unveiled its latest cocktail menu this week, which is full of updated tiki classics.

It transforms classics such as the Hurricane and Mai Tai using a blend of house favourite spirits, tropical flavours and fresh fruit.

Drinks on the menu include the Daikiki, made with almond-infused Havana Club, lime juice, vanilla syrup, and citrus bitters; and the Walking Dead, which includes Zacapa rum, Amaro Di Angostura, lime juice, orange and grapefruit bitters, spiced syrup and fresh passion fruit.

Bacardi has crowned the UK finalists of its Legacy cocktail competition.

Clare Morrow (pictured left), Will Meredith, Chelsie Bailey and Ken Langenfeld (pictured right) triumphed in the regional heats and will now go on to compete in the UK final in March. The UK winner will then be announced at an industry dinner and will represent the UK at the global final in Amsterdam.

Next month, all four bartenders will visit Puerto Rico and Miami, where they will explore the history of Bacardi at the Miami archives and will visit the distillery in Puerto Rico.

Diageo-owned Irish whiskey brand Roe & Co came to London this week to celebrate the launch of its Roe & Collective series.

The programme of creative events kicked off at Shoreditch-based TT Liquor to showcase each element of the new campaign, with a focus on creatives, makers and whiskey-lovers in London.

Roe & Collective began with a host of cocktail masterclasses and brand passion sessions with Alan Mulvihill, Roe & Co brand ambassador, tastings and immersive craft sessions with campaign partner Make Your Own Studios.

SB travelled to Antwerp this week to celebrate the launch of the Capsule Collection, created by Havana Club and urban fashion brand Daily Paper.

The Capsule Collection includes eight black and gold-themed pieces, such as t-shirts, hoodies and hip flasks. A limited edition bottle of Havana Club 7 Años featuring the Daily Paper logo will also be released.

At the same time, Havana Club and Daily Paper launched the Cuban Links talent contest, which has been named in honour of the chunky gold chains that feature predominantly in the Capsule Collection and aims to nurture the next generation of creative talent.

This week, family-owned crystal company Glencairn joined Elite, the London Stock Exchange Group’s programme for fast-growing companies.

The whisky glass producer is one of seven Scottish companies to have joined Elite, and each was welcomed into the programme at a launch event hosted by the CEO of Elite and first minister Nicola Sturgeon (pictured).

Elite Scotland will feature tailored events, training and a mentorship network in Scotland.

London pub and cocktail bar The Gun in Spitalfields opened its doors this week.

Launched by London bar operator East London Pub Co, The Gun has been inspired by the area’s heritage of artillery factories and breweries.

The 350-person pub, which celebrated its grand opening on Wednesday (30 January), features an industrial look and feel with design features including copper finishing, green marble and a statement ‘gunshot’ glass installation.

This week, SB was in Valencia at Cafe Madrid to sample its latest cocktail offering.

Opened by renowned bartender Ivan Talens, cocktails at the venue include the Citrus Again, made with Martin Miller’s Westbourne, yuzu liqueur, citrus compote, lime juice, lemongrass, egg white and orange blossom powder.
