Soho’s Swift bar launches ’emotive’ cocktail menu
By Nicola CarruthersLondon bar Swift has given its cocktail menu “the biggest shake up” since the venue’s launch, with a range of new drinks that evoke emotions.
The new cocktail menu at Swift has been designed to evoke emotion
Launched in late November 2016 on the site of former industry hotspot Lab, Swift is the brainchild of ex-Milk and Honey veterans Bobby Hiddleston and Mia Johansson and Rosie Stimpson and Edmund Weil, of Nightjar and Oriole.
The two-floor Soho venue has unveiled a new drinks list for its downstairs bar, which will launch in February.
The menu is split into four sections – Bright, Delicate, Stiff and Rich – and aims to guide guests on the style and flavour of each cocktail.
Swift hired illustrator Sara Stode to design the menu, which has been created to evoke “the feeling, sentiment and emotion” of each serve.
The new menu will also “move towards more futuristic and current flavours”.
The Delicate section features “light-flavoured” ingredients such as fresh linen, dragonflies and blossom flowers while Bright focuses on “bold colours” and “punchy flavours” such as chilli and citrus fruit.
Meanwhile, Stiff depicts boozier serves featuring elements such as cigar smoke, and Rich represents “the decadence of heavier-style cocktails” with cherries and chocolate.
Cocktails on the menu include the “woody and robust” Jackdaw, a mix of Woodford Reserve Bourbon, Clos Martin Armagnac, Swift Jamaican rum, honey and allspice and the “vibrant and buttery” Domino, a combination of Green Spot Irish whiskey, macadamia, liquorice root, lemon and egg white.
Johansson said: “Swift’s signature style has always been pared-back presentation, and this is something which will very much remain, however we wanted to create something which would guide guests on the style of drink they’re choosing in a very visual way.
“The images not only convey the flavour profile, but also the feeling and emotion that the cocktails evoke.”
In addition to the drink offering, a new food menu will feature bocadillo-style sandwiches with a vegetarian, meat and fish option every day.
Since its launch, Swift has won the title of Best New International Cocktail Bar at Tales of the Cocktail’s Spirited Awards in 2017 and was named SB‘s European Bar to Watch in 2017.
