Raasay Distillery launches single malt pre-orders
Isle of Raasay Distillery has launched pre-orders for its first bottles of single malt Scotch whisky, which will be available in 2020.
Raasay Distillery’s inaugural whisky will be available in 2020
Produced and distilled on the Isle of Raasay using Scottish barley and water sourced from the distillery’s own well, the spirit has undergone a longer fermentation period of up to 115 hours, which is said to “bring a rich, characterful flavour”.
This first release of Raasay spirit is currently still maturing in first-fill Bourbon barrels at the distillery warehouse, which were first laid down in 2017.
In its final year, the whisky will be finished in Bordeaux red wine casks before being bottled at 46% abv. Isle of Raasay single malt will be non-chill filtered and naturally coloured.
Raasay’s inaugural whisky release is now available to pre-order on the distillery’s website for £99 (US$128). Bottles will be delivered before Christmas 2020.
Earlier this year, the distillery offered attendees at The National Whisky Festival in Glasgow a preview of its inaugural single malt.
During a whisky masterclass hosted by Isle of Raasay Distillery head distiller Iain Robertson, whisky festival attendees were able to sample the distillery’s new make spirit alongside five different drams from specially selected rye, virgin oak and Bordeaux casks.
The distillery also recently announced plans to sell 30-litre ex-Speyside Scotch whisky casks filled with its maturing whisky.
