MGP unveils Eight and Sand Blended Bourbon Whiskey

Third party spirits producer MGP Ingredients has taken inspiration from the American railroad to create a blend of Bourbon and American whiskeys: Eight and Sand Blended Bourbon Whiskey.

Eight and Sand refers to the eighth notch (which is also the fastest) on a locomotive’s throttle and the sand used on the wheels to prevent slipping.

MGP Ingredients explained that to wish a train crew “an eight and sand” is the equivalent of “smooth sailing”.

Eight and Sand Blended Bourbon Whiskey joins MGP’s Rack House series. It is said to have spicy rye and cinnamon notes, followed by a touch of caramel.

It has been made without added colourings and will retail at RRP US$29.99 per 750ml in Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Montana, Missouri, Nebraska, Texas and Wisconsin.

Andrew Mansinne, vice president of brands, MGP Ingredients, said: “We’re proud to position Eight and Sand as an engine of innovation in our portfolio.

“We were inspired by the story of the American railroad and Atchison’s local E&S Locomotive 811, which has long connected our hometown to the country.

“We’ve designed Eight and Sand as an approachable blend of Bourbons and whiskeys designed to appeal to consumers looking for great value, great quality and smooth taste.”

Last year, MGP Ingredients launched its first own-label American rye whiskey brand: Rossville Union.
