Balcones Texas Pot Still Bourbon joins core range
By Owen BellwoodAmerican whiskey producer Balcones Distilling has unveiled the latest whiskey to join its core range: Texas Pot Still Bourbon.
Balcones Texas Pot Still Bourbon is the brand’s latest core range whiskey
Distilled in the brand’s Forsyth pot stills at its distillery in Waco, Texas, the whiskey has been aged for 24 months in new charred oak barrels.
Made from a mash bill containing roasted blue corn, Texas wheat, Texas rye and malted barley, Balcones Texas Pot Still Bourbon is bottled at 46% abv.
Jared Himstedt, head distiller of Balcones Distilling, said: “Texas Pot Still Bourbon is about inclusivity. We wanted to create something that both long-time Balcones enthusiasts and people who are experiencing us for the first time can appreciate.
“By delivering flavour complexity within an approachable taste profile, we can introduce more people to the nuance of what we do.”
The Bourbon boasts aromas of “honey, crisp apples, kettle corn and Graham cracker”, while the palate is filled with “honey, sweet cream and candied pecan” flavours, which lead to a soft and sweet finish.
Balcones Texas Pot Still Bourbon will first launch in Texas, Florida and California at an RRP of US$29.99 per 750ml bottle.
The new whiskey will be available in the UK during the second half of 2019.
Last year, Balcones celebrated its 10th anniversary with the release of two single malts that it said were “unlike any” the Texas distillery has released before.
