Angel’s Envy to release Sherry cask-finished Bourbon

Bacardi-owned Angel’s Envy has unveiled its first new expression in six years – a limited edition Bourbon finished in oloroso Sherry casks.

Angel’s Envy finished in Sherry casks is limited to 3,600 bottles and is only available in Kentucky

The Bourbon had been aged for four to nine years before it was filled into the Sherry casks, where it was finished for between two and three years.

The 50% abv bottling has a “sweet nose with hints of raisin and hazelnut” and vanilla and caramel flavours on the palate.

Limited to 3,600 bottles, Angel’s Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Oloroso Sherry Casks will go on sale on 12 February through 500 Main, the brand’s membership platform. Members will be able to reserve a bottle for collection at the distillery.

It will then be released to the general public at 8am on 15 February, when the brand’s co-founders, the Henderson family, will be present at the distillery to sign bottles.

The new expression will also be available to buy from select retailers in Kentucky.

“With our latest Angel’s Envy expression, we’ve taken inspiration from the venenciador of Spain, whose exacting pull and pour of Sherry is required to aerate the liquid in order to reveal its true character,” said Wes Henderson, chief innovation officer and founder at Angel’s Envy

“We took a page from that book and chose to let this limited release rest for an extended finishing period in oloroso Sherry barrels, lengthening the oxidation process for a sophisticated level of flavour. We chose oloroso Sherry casks because we believed the nutty notes from the oloroso Sherry would pair well with our Bourbon.”

The new Sherry-finished expression joins the Angel’s Envy range, which includes Angel’s Envy Rye Finished in Rum Barrels and Angel’s Envy Cask Strength Bourbon Finished in Port Barrels.

Angel’s Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Oloroso Sherry Casks is exclusively available in Kentucky for US$199.99.
