Smith, the former head distiller at Sunderland-based Poetic License, has taken over from Gerard Macluskey, who relocated to Scotland.

Masons Yorkshire Gin is “determined to be at the forefront of innovation” in gin this year.

The Yorkshire gin brand was looking for “someone who could maintain and develop the quality in Masons’ current distinctive portfolio of editions”.

“Karl and Cathy Mason and the team are incredibly thrilled to welcome him on-board and look forward to seeing what exciting developments he has to bring,” Masons Yorkshire Gin said in a statement.

In September last year,  Masons revealed its latest expression, G12, which launched exclusively with budget supermarket Aldi.
