Patrón crowns Perfectionists 2018 global winnerBy Owen Bellwood
Yeray Monforte of Dr Stravinsky in Barcelona, Spain, has been crowned the 2018 Global Patrón Perfectionists Cocktail Competition winner.
The final saw Monforte compete against fellow bartenders Óscar Olvera from Mexico, Makina Labrecque from Canada, Peter Hannah from the USA, Chloé Merz from Germany and Mitsuhiro Nakamura from Japan.
Monforte triumphed at the global final, which took place at the Tequila’s brand home Hacienda Patrón in Jalisco, Mexico, with his cocktail called Wind – which was made with Patrón Silver Tequila, orange honey, lemon juice, olive oil, egg white, fino wine and a spritz of Patrón Reposado Tequila that had been macerated in bee pollen.
Monforte said: “What an incredible journey – I am so thrilled with this victory and the resonating title in the industry as well as a great reward for the commitment and the passion that led me through the research and creation of my perfect Patrón cocktail.
“From submitting my entry to competing in front of the judges during the final, the Patrón Perfectionists Cocktail Competition has been an unforgettable experience.”
During the competition, each bartender was challenged with creating a Patrón cocktail that reflects “the passion, precision and care” that goes into each bottle of Patrón Tequila.
Lee Applbaum, chief marketing officer at Patrón Spirits International, said: “Over the past few years we’ve seen the Patrón Perfectionists Cocktail Competition grow with bartenders from all over the world entering.
“The talent that these bartenders have brought to the competition is outstanding, making judging very tough. Every cocktail presented in the competition is a fine interpretation of perfection and truly showcases the versatility of Patrón Tequila.”
