Officers seize €403,000 of illicit alcohol in Dublin

Revenue officers at Dublin Port in Ireland have seized more than 11,000 litres of illegal alcohol, estimated to be worth more than €403,000 (US$457,835).

More than 11,000 litres of illegal alcohol was found in Ireland last week

The smuggled alcohol, which included more than 10,200 litres of blended Scotch whisky and 800 litres of alcopops, was found last week during a routine search.

The alcohol was discovered in a trailer, which had originated from Poland.

The illicit alcohol represents a potential loss to the exchequer of more than €255,300 (US$290,000). Investigations are ongoing.

Anyone with information about the illicit alcohol has been asked to contact Revenue in confidence on free phone number 1800 295 295.

In December 2017, revenue officers seized more than 4,000 litres of ‘vodka-type’ spirit in County Louth, Ireland, estimated to be worth €460,000 (US$550,000).
