Fen Chiew creates Chinese New Year baijiu chocolates
Baijiu brand Fen Chiew has partnered with British chocolatier William Curley to celebrate Chinese New Year.
Curley, who has won the title of ‘Britain’s Best Chocolatier’ four times, has incorporated Fen Chiew baijiu into his special edition Chinese New Year chocolates, which will be available from luxury department store Harrods, London, from 1 February.
Fen Chiew is made in the city of Fenyang, located in the Chinese province of Shanxi. Its production includes fermentation in solid earthenware cylinders that are buried underground and then distilled twice. It is made from organic sorghum and aged for between five and 30 years before it is bottled.
The chocolates, titled Fen Chiew Classic, have taken inspiration from the flavours found in the baijiu brand, including honey, pear, jasmine, quince, cinnamon, apricot and thyme.
The Fen Chiew Classic chocolates have been made from a dark chocolate ganache with a cacao base, and will be available to purchase for RRP £14 (US$18) per 100g (approximately 10 chocolates).
Fen Chiew 30 Years Old will also be available to purchase at Harrods in decorated porcelain 500ml bottles, priced at £160 (US$210).
Curley said: “I only use the world’s finest ingredients in creating my chocolates and it is a special honour for me to partner with China’s famous Fen Chiew.
“This premium white spirit is of extremely high quality and its spectrum of amazing aromas and flavours presented me with the opportunity to create deliciously unique and indulgent chocolates for this Chinese New Year.”
