Douglas Laing debuts cask strength Timorous Beastie
Independent Scotch whisky bottler Douglas Laing has kick-started 2019 with the launch of a limited edition, cask strength 12-year-old Timorous Beastie bottling.
The latest release under the Highland Scotch whisky brand has been bottled at 54.4% abv without colouring or chill filtration.
The whisky is said to have aromas of marshmallow, barley and soft spices, leading to flavours of creamy honey, buttered bread and sweet malt, and finishing with notes of nutmeg, oat biscuits and lemon sorbet.
Only 3,000 bottles of Timorous Beastie 12 Years Old Cask Strength have been created, and will be available from specialist retailers across Europe and Asia at an RRP of £59.99 (US$75).
Cara Laing, director of whisky at family-owned Douglas Laing, said: “Proudly bottled at natural cask strength, this feisty special edition bursts with barley, sugary marshallow and citrus notes, and unlike its namesake, Burns’ timid field mouse, it’s certainly not for the faint-hearted.
“Incidentally, it’s also National Cheese Lovers’ Day on January 20th, and this special edition bottling is the perfect partner to a cheeseboard, in particular a hard cheese such as comté.”
Douglas Laing celebrated its 70th anniversary last year, which concluded with the launch of a 1982 vintage Port Ellen and 26-year-old Big Peat bottling.
