New Scotch whisky pays tribute to Star Trek character

US bottler Silver Screen Bottling Company has extended its Star Trek-inspired spirits line with the launch of Montgomery Scott Blended Scotch.

Montgomery Scott Blended Scotch pays tribute to a Scotch-loving character from sci-fi show Star Trek

The blended Scotch whisky is inspired by Star Trek character Montgomery Scott, known as Scotty by his shipmates.

The limited edition Montgomery Scott Blended Scotch was produced in Glasgow at “one of the most awarded distilleries in Scotland”. It is described as “exceptionally smooth with just a slight smoky note”.

Scott, who was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in the year 2222, was known to enjoy drinking Scotch from across the galaxy.

One of his most prized possessions was a bottle of “very, very, very, old” Scotch whisky, which was hidden in a suit of armour. Scott once shared the bottle with a foe in 2268 as part of a ruse to retake control of his ship.

The expression is the fourth Star Trek-themed spirit to be launched by Silver Screen Bottling Company. The firm previously released James T Kirk Bourbon, James T Kirk Bourbon Reserve and Ten-Forward Vodka.

The company will launch “additional product lines” in the future.

Montgomery Scott Blended Scotch is priced at US$49.95 per 750ml and is available for pre-order online. The product is expected to ship in mid-March 2019.
