A New York venue in an old water tower, London’s latest immersive cocktail experience and a tea-inspired drinking den all feature in our round-up of the hottest new bars.

Dano’s in Portugal features in November’s hottest bar openings

November saw famed New York bar Employees Only open the doors to its sixth overseas outpost, while Shanghai celebrated the launch of its latest themed cocktail lounge.

In London, a bar inspired by “the nightmare girlfriend your mother warned you about” burst onto the cocktail scene, while in New York a Korean-inspired watering hole also opened in the Lower East Side.

Brasserie of Light, London

Brasserie of Light has opened in luxury department store Selfridges in London.

The “contemporary and elegant” all-day restaurant and bar features bold, colourful and light-filled interiors, with a Damien Hirst-designed Pegasus statue hanging above the heads of guests.

Cocktails at Brasserie of Light include The Queen of Time, made with Ridgeview Bloomsbury Brut NV English sparkling wine, cassis and sloe gin, and the Est. 1909, which is made with gin, elderflower liqueur and Prosecco.

Eliza, Singapore

Eliza is the latest themed cocktail lounge to open on Singapore’s Telok Ayer Street.

The venue has been designed to appear as the fashion studio for the fictitious Eliza Lo, who according to the bar’s narrative has created the lounge to spite her family.

Eliza will regularly host live pop-jazz music as well as DJ’s who will play late into the evening.

The venue is the third to be opened by the fictitious Lo family, it follows Sumyitai, Mona Lounge and Chi Kinjo.

Reception Bar, New York

Reception Bar opened its doors on New York’s Lower East Side offering its take on Korean-influenced cocktails.

The venue offers a number of soju-based and tea-infused cocktails, such as the Plum Dreams, made from artemisia soju, sparkling plum wine, yuja honey, lemon and egg white, and the Matcha Meadow, which combines matcha soju, Korean pear shrub and sparkling jasmine.

Dano’s, Portugal

Luxury Portuguese resort Quinta do Lago this month opened the doors to its newest drinking and dining destination, Dano’s.

The new venue, set in a barn-inspired space, features an impressive back-flipping bronze sculpture suspended from the ceiling.

Dano’s serves an array of dishes made with seasonal Portuguese produce, while the drinks selection features a number of in-house creations as well as wine and beer.

The Other Roof, Singapore

This month, The Other Roof burst onto the bustling Singapore cocktail scene hoping to bring together the world of tea and spirits.

The new drinking den features more than 400 different tea-finished spirits that are used to create innovative tea-infused cocktails, such as a Negroni made with bohemian raspberry tea-infused gin.

The Other Roof also serves up a selection of sandwiches, sliders and small plates.

Skylight, London

London rooftop venue Skylight has re-launched for its 2018 winter season, which runs until 27 January.

Winter at Skylight has been themed around an urban après skate bar, hosting Europe’s only real-ice rooftop ice rink and a number of cosy igloos and huts.

The space also incorporates heated après skate bars serving an array of warming winter cocktails and mulled wine.

The Water Tower, New York

November saw The Williamsburg Hotel in New York open the doors to its latest drinking den, The Water Tower.

The intimate cocktail lounge and nightclub is perched on the roof of the hotel, where it boasts unobstructed views of the Manhattan skyline through floor-to-ceiling windows.

The beverage menu offers inventive cocktails, including the Heart of Gold, made with Patrón Gran Platinum, Cocchi Americano and white truffle-infused Aperol, and the Purple Rain, which combines Empress Gin, Cocchi Americano, Pear Williams and Plant People CBD oil.

Nikki’s Bar, London

The latest venue from London bar operators The Adventure Group, Nikki’s is said to be inspired by “the nightmare girlfriend your mum warned you about”.

Opening in London’s Shoreditch, Nikki’s is a late-night drinking den drawing influences from the films of Quentin Tarantino. The space features a mix of trash TV and garish colours, as well as a PVC-covered bed for snapping the perfect selfie.

Drinks on offer include classics such as Mojitos, Pornstar Martinis and Zombies.

Employees Only, Sydney 

Famed New York drinking den Employees Only has opened a new outpost in Sydney, Australia.

Taking over a space on Sydney’s Barrack Street, the sixth outpost for Employees Only is run by Dushan Zaric, one of the founders of the original New York bar.

Drinks on offer at the new venue include much-loved staples from the original, such as the Amelia, made with vodka, elderflower liqueur, blackberry and fresh lemon.

Pirates of the Hidden Spirit, London

The team behind immersive bars Alcotraz and Moonshine Saloon has opened the doors to its third London venue, Pirates of the Hidden Spirit.

Setting up on London’s Southbank, the new venue is said to be the world’s first immersive cocktail experience that is set on an authentic 16th century pirate ship.

Once on-boards, guests will experience life as a pirate on the Seven Seas as they are given an opportunity to plunder the world’s finest treasure, including delicious cocktails.
