Gordon & MacPhail names Chopin Imports US distributor

Chopin Imports has signed a multi-year exclusive US distribution deal with Gordon & MacPhail as the Scotch whisky bottler aims to further its global growth strategy.

Through the agreement, Chopin imports will be responsible for the entire range of Gordon & MacPhail whiskies, including the company’s Discovery, Connoisseurs Choice, Distillery Labels and special releases from the Private Collections and Generations series.

Chopin Imports also revealed it will be distributing Gordon & MacPhail’s Dunkeld Atholl Brose liqueur and Benromach’s Red Door Gin in the US. Gordon & MacPhail acquired the Benromach Distillery in 1993.

Commenting on the partnership, David King, international director of sales at Gordon & MacPhail, said: “The United States is an important market and very much a focus of our long-term plan to build upon the Gordon & MacPhail single malt whisky brand status in the luxury sector while bringing attention to the Benromach brand.

“It only makes sense for us to work with a company that builds and understands the luxury spirit category in the US. I am confident that our spirits collection coupled with the expertise of Chopin Imports will bring great success in the US market.”

Benromach released Red Door Gin in July this year, which was named after the distillery’s distinctive red doors.

Bottled at 45% abv, the London Dry gin is said to have notes of juniper and bitter orange, combined with sea buckthorn, heather and rowanberries.

Red Door Gin will launch in the US in March 2019 at an RRP of US$39.

Earlier this year, The Spirits Business interviewed Ewen Mackintosh, Gordon & MacPhail managing director, to discuss the company’s new, modern approach to whisky.
