Former Diageo on-trade head joins Four Pillars

Australian gin brand Four Pillars has recruited former Diageo employee Tom Appleton as its new regional trade director.

Tom Appleton will join Four Pillars in January 2019

Appleton will take up his new role with Four Pillars on 21 January 2019 and will work closely with Vanguard to secure listings for the gin brand in bars and restaurants across Australia.

In addition to leading the brand’s on-trade strategy in its native domestic market, Appleton will also be in charge of the New Zealand market, Asia, the US and Canada. He will be travelling to each of these regions during the first half of next year.

Appleton has previously worked for Diageo for 11 years, most recently in the position of head of the Johnnie Walker owner’s Australian on-trade business.

Before that, he worked as head of Reserve brands for Diageo and established the company’s “luxury” sales business in Australia.

Stuart Gregor, co-founder and trade director, said: “With Tom joining the team, it relieves a little of the pressure on Scott English who for the past year has been our single global sales resource and has manfully held the fort managing Australia and our 25 markets across the globe.

“Scott will continue to be our sales lead in the Australian off-premise as well as continuing to be our lead for the UK, European and Middle East businesses and the incredibly fast-growing global travel retail channel.

“2019 promises to be pretty special for Four Pillars and we expect to have several more personnel additions throughout the year as we set our sights on becoming one of the world’s best-loved and most recognised craft gin distilleries.”
