Rémy Cointreau has unveiled its Louis XIII Smart Decanter
The news from the premium Cognac brand follows announcements from several other drinks producers that they would be incorporating NFC tech into their bottles, including Mackmyra Swedish whisky and Kilchoman Scotch.
Ludovic du Plessis, Louis XIII global executive director, said: “Every Louis XIII decanter will feature this smart solution worldwide. At Louis XIII, we place clients at the very heart of everything we do, striving to offer them always the best experiences.
“This innovation will be launched globally starting February 2019 and will be deployed all over the world the following months.”
The bottles feature an NFC-enabled chip that has been integrated into the cork stopper of each decanter and can be activated by tapping a smartphone against it.
Tapping the NFC-enabled stopper will allow Cognac fans to access the Louis XIII Society landing page to create or log into their account. The decanter number will then be automatically registered.
The Louis XIII Society is a private members club for owners of Louis XIII decanters, which offers customised decanter engravings, pre-releases of limited editions, contact with a Louis XIII personal advisor for private tastings and an invitation to network with Louis XIII Cognac owners registered all over the world.
In addition, the Louis XIII Smart Decanter will also allow owners to create custom gifting messages that will appear when recipients scan their decanter.
