Kavka Vodka launches in UK

London restaurateur Jan Woroniecki has launched a new Polish vodka brand in the UK, called Kavka.

Kavka Vodka is available in the UK through Bibendum

Woroniecki, owner of Baltic Restaurant & Bar in Southwark and Ognisko in Knightsbridge, drew inspiration from the 18th and 19th century vodka production methods on Poland.

Distributed by Bibendum, Kavka Vodka is made at a small distillery in western Poland. The expression is a blend of rye and wheat spirits, along with small amounts of aged apple and plum spirits.

Produced by master distiller Urszula Wojcik, Kavka is described as having notes of “fresh, ripe apples, rich dried fruit, then honey with an underlying layer of rye bread” on the nose. While the palate has “lemon freshness with orange marmalade notes”.

Woroniecki said: “The idea behind Kavka was to fight back against the idea that vodka should be without distinctive character, aroma, taste, or colour (the American legal definition of vodka) and to go back to the production methods popular in the 18th and 19th centuries when each distillery would produce spirits that emphasised taste and individuality rather than trying to filter them out.”

The expression is currently available in London venues including The River Café, Oblix, Zuma, The Ivy Garden and Baltic Restaurant & Bar.

Kavka is priced at £34.99 (US$44.70) and is available to buy from The Drink Shop and Hedonism Wines.
