Cooper King Distillery to sell full whisky casks

Yorkshire-based Cooper King Distillery is offering whisky fans the opportunity to buy full casks of its spirit.

Cooper King Distillery will produce English single malt whisky

Cooper King Distillery, based in Sutton-on-the-Forest, York, is selling 100-litre first-fill ex-Bourbon casks filled with new make spirit.

The resulting single malt whisky is said to have a “flavour profile like no other” due to the founders’ travels through Australia, where they became fascinated by the Tasmanian whisky scene.

The whisky is made using Yorkshire barley floor malted in England’s oldest working maltings, before being mashed and fermented on site. It is then distilled in a 900-litre Tasmanian copper pot still – the only one of its kind in Europe.

Only a “very small number” of casks are available for purchase for £2,200 (US$2,855). Buyers will receive an invite to a celebratory event this winter to see the filling of the first ever cask at the distillery.

Its initial batch of single malt whisky is scheduled to go into production in autumn 2018, with an estimated release date of 2023. The distillery’s inaugural product, Cooper King Dry Gin, was released in May 2018.

Cooper King Distillery co-founder Chris Jaume said: “This is an incredibly exciting time for us; everything we’ve done over the last two years has been in preparation for production of our first whisky.

“We can’t wait to fill the first casks in a few weeks and continue our whisky journey”.
