Teeling distillery releases its first Dublin whiskey

Irish whiskey maker Teeling has released the first commercial bottling from its Dublin distillery – a single pot still whiskey that marks the revival of distilling in the city.

Teeling Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey is the first new Dublin-distilled whiskey to be launched in nearly 50 years

The launch follows the sale of the first 100 bottles of Teeling’s single pot still whiskey at auction in September.

Bottle number one sold for £10,000 (US$13,000), setting a new world record for the most expensive bottle of whisk(e)y from a new distillery. All profits raised from the auction will be donated to charitable causes in Dublin’s Liberties area.

The first commercial release of Teeling Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey is also the first new Dublin-distilled whiskey to be launched in nearly 50 years.

The whiskey is produced from a recipe of 50% un-malted barley and 50% malted barley. Distilled in 2015, the liquid has been matured in a combination of virgin oak, ex-Bourbon and ex-wine casks.

“When the Teeling Whiskey Company was formed in 2012, my vision was to revive Irish whiskey distilling in Dublin and put our capital city back at the top table of whiskey-producing areas in the world,” said Jack Teeling, founder and managing director of Teeling Whiskey.

“While we have achieved a lot over the subsequent six years, the release of our own Dublin-distilled whiskey completes the revival of the craft of distilling in Dublin and hopefully draws us into a new renaissance for not only Teeling Whiskey but Dublin-distilled Irish whiskey as a whole.

“Many new Dublin distilleries will no doubt follow but the history books will always remember us as the first and leaders of a new generation of producers. Our journey has been supported by many to get us to this point but a new legacy has just begun. We look forward to helping drive a new golden era for Dublin and Irish whiskey. ”

Teeling Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey (46% abv) is limited to 6,000 bottles, with the first batch available exclusively in Ireland at an RRP of €55 (US$62).
