Laphroaig 28 Year Old debuts in US

Islay distillery Laphroaig has released a limited edition 28-year-old single malt Scotch in the US.

Laphroaig 28 Year Old has an RRP of US$799

Laphroaig 28 Year Old was first matured in an assortment of cask sizes, from quarter casks to butts, before the liquid from each was married in Sherry casks for the final year of its maturation period.

Bottled at 44.4% abv, Laphroaig 28 Year Old has an RRP of US$799 per 750ml bottle.

The whisky is said to have aromas of grilled dates, leading to baked pears and burnt wood on the palate, finishing with a “complex lingering peaty flavour”.

The 28-year-old follows the launch of a limited edition 27-year-old last October, priced at US$750.

In August this year, a bottle of Laphroaig 1967 Samaroli 15 Year Old fetched £61,000 (US$78,500) at auction, setting a new record for the brand.
