Johnnie Walker unveils White Walker Scotch whisky

Diageo has revealed details of its new limited edition Game of Thrones-inspired blended Scotch whisky, called White Walker by Johnnie Walker.

White Walker by Johnie Walker is inspired by the undead army of White Walkers

Earlier this year, the blended Scotch whisky brand released a teaser video on its social media platforms giving away very few details of the new expression.

Diageo has teamed up with the hit show’s network HBO to produce the White Walker whisky, which is inspired by the show’s undead army of White Walkers.

The whisky has been released ahead of Game of Thrones‘s eighth and final series, which will debut next year.

Created by whisky specialist George Harper, alongside the small team of blenders at Johnnie Walker, the White Walker whisky is best served directly from the freezer to reiterate “the chilling presence of the White Walkers”.

Bottled at 41.7% abv, the expression contains liquid from single malt distilleries Cardhu and Clynelish – one of Scotland’s most northern distilleries.

Harper said: “Whiskies from Clynelish have endured long, Scottish winters, not dissimilar to the long periods endured by the Night’s Watch who have ventured north of the wall – so it was the perfect place to start when creating this unique whisky.”

The expression is described as having notes of caramelised sugar and vanilla, and fresh red berries with a touch of orchard fruit.

Jeff Peters, vice president, licensing and retail at HBO, said: “We knew there was fan appetite for a Game of Thrones whisky and once we saw the vision from Johnnie Walker for a way to collaborate we knew the idea was perfect and the time was now.

“From the beginning, they understood that we wanted to create something special, and they’ve accomplished that with White Walker by Johnnie Walker. We’re confident fans will enjoy sipping this delicious whisky as they wait for season eight and beyond.”

The bottle incorporates an icy white and blue design along with the brand’s iconic Striding Man logo, which has been changed to imitate the White Walkers leader the Night King.

The design also features temperature-sensitive ink technology to reveal the phrase ‘Winter is Here’ when the bottle is frozen.

As part of the collaboration, Diageo will also launch a new Game of Thrones Single Malt Scotch Whisky Collection, which is set to debut in February 2018.

The range will feature eight Scotch whiskies that are each paired with one of the show’s Houses of Westeros and the Night’s Watch to give fans a “taste of the Seven Kingdoms”.

More information about the collection will be revealed in due course.

White Walker by Johnnie Walker will be available globally, including in all leading airports, from October 2018 while supplies last with an RRP of US$36 for 750ml.
