Brits wait until 11.54am to start Christmas Day drinking

Britons are renowned for enjoying a tipple or two on Christmas Day and are most likely to reach for their first alcoholic beverage at 11.54am, according to a recent survey.

Britons are most likely to reach for their first alcoholic beverage at 11.54am, according to a recent survey

Masons Yorkshire Gin surveyed more than 2,000 Brits and found that on average Londoners are the first to reach for an alcoholic drink on Christmas Day, taking their first sip at 11.03am.

In the south west of England, on average people wait until 11.47am on Christmas Day before reaching for the booze.

More than a quarter (26%) of women questioned said their ideal time to enjoy a gin and tonic was after dinner, though overall this opinion created a north-south divide across the nation.

In the north, those who took part in the survey said they preferred an after-dinner G&T, whereas southerners preferred a G&T before lunch “to stimulate the appetite”.

Karl Mason, co-founder of Masons, said: “There was no surprise that when it comes to Christmas favourites, a glass of fizz is hard to beat as the first tipple of the day.

“We know our loyal customers would love to find a bottle of Masons under the Christmas tree ready to enjoy later in the day and this year we are incredibly proud to share G12 as the perfect gift.”

Masons Yorkshire Gin launched G12 exclusively in budget supermarket Aldi on 1 October this year.
