Berry Bros taps into coffee trend with new liqueur

Wine and spirits merchant Berry Bros & Rudd has brought its coffee heritage into the 21st century by adding an own-label coffee liqueur to its portfolio.

Based at 3 St James’s Street, London, the shop originally opened in 1698 and still has a coffee mill sign hanging above the door. At the time of opening, the shop was known as ‘The Sign of the Coffee Mill’, and the huge scales at the company’s reception are further testament to its coffee-laced past.

Berry Bros & Rudd Coffee Liqueur was created in partnership with Thames Distillers and Union Hand-Roasted Coffee, and is bottled at 35% abv.

It is produced using a cold-drip process to extract less acidity from the coffee bean, said to give the finished product a “greater flavour and sweetness, and a more concentrated coffee essence”.

Lizzy Rudd, chairman of Berry Bros & Rudd, said: “Coffee was where the business started back in 1698 and so it feels rather nostalgic but incredibly appropriate to be offering a coffee-based product to our customers once again.

Having already relaunched our London Dry Gin earlier this year and providing a new classic range of whiskies under our Berry Bros & Rudd label, it’s fun to have something a bit different to add to our range.”

Berry Bros & Rudd Coffee Liqueur is available to purchase online at bbr.com and from the firm’s London and Basingstoke shops at an RRP of £26.50 (US$34) per 700ml.

Fields, Morris and Verdin, the trade arm of Berry Bros & Rudd, will be distributing the coffee liqueur in the UK.
