St-Rémy launches Chardonnay cask-finished brandy

French brandy producer St-Rémy has launched the first bottling in its new Cask Finish Collection, which has been finished in French Chardonnay casks.

St-Rémy’s latest release has undergone a finishing process in casks that formerly held Chardonnay wine

The first expression in the limited edition series, called French Chardonnay Cask, has been aged in French oak barrels before being transferred to casks that formerly held French Chardonnay wines.

Cécile Roudaut, St-Rémy master blender, said: “My aim for the French Chardonnay Cask was to replicate all the subtlety, freshness and liveliness of Chardonnay wines.

“I was convinced that the final result would be a sensational mix of sumptuous aromas and flavours, that can be best enjoyed neat or on the rocks.”

To create the expression, aged eaux-de-vie was filled into French Chardonnay casks in May 2014. Over the following years, Roudaut and her team periodically sampled the ageing spirit to monitor the behaviour of each batch.

The finishing process created a liquid that has “fine balance, silky and full-bodied structure”, as well as “subtlety with a rich, fresh, lively and dynamic finish”.

Bottled at 40% abv, less than 10,000 bottles of the expression have been produced. These will initially be available exclusively in global travel retail through Dubai Duty Free from September before a wider roll-out to domestic markets in Canada, New-Zealand, Russia, Finland and Norway.
