La Part des Anges auction raises almost €300,000

The 11th La Part des Anges Cognac auction has raised €291,500 (US$342,000) for charity following the sale of 22 rare decanters.

Some of the funds will be donated to Thierry Marx’s culinary school, Cuisine Mode d’Emploi

The auction, organised by the Bureau National Interprofessionnel du Cognac (BNIC) in collaboration with auction house Artcurial, was held in the new setting of the Chais Monnet Hotel in Cognac on 20 September.

Some of the funds raised will be donated to chef Thierry Marx’s culinary school, Cuisine Mode d’Emploi, which teaches ex-convicts a profession related to cooking free of charge.

“I firmly believe that learning a trade not only offers protection against unemployment, but is also a means of making men free,” the chef said.

The remainder of the proceeds will be donated to the Cognac-based Fraineau Association, which supports young people with disabilities.

Some of the most expensive lots included Martell Savoir-Faire (€35,000), a Rémy Martin Carte Blanche à Baptiste Loiseau, and a set of Bache-Gabrielsen l’Expression des Terroirs (€32,000).

Fifteen of the Cognac lots included a VIP trip to Cognac.

A series of illustrations from Jacky Jousson depicting “experiences associated with several lots” also went under the hammer.

A bottle of Martell Savoir-Faire fetched €35,000 at the auction
