Balvenie classic car and rare whiskies head to auction

Speyside distillery The Balvenie and auction house Christie’s have teamed up to offer a unique lot “fit for a true whisky connoisseur”, including a classic car, rare whiskies and a distillery trip.

The unique lot includes a bespoke Balvenie Morgan V8 Roadstar

The offering includes a bespoke Balvenie Morgan V8 Roadstar, a two-seat classic car from the Morgan Motor Company featuring customised Balvenie branding; The Balvenie DCS Compendium Chapter 4, the latest chapter in a series of rare whiskies that celebrates the work of malt master David Stewart; and a trip to Dufftown for a tour of The Balvenie distillery.

Hosted online by Christie’s, bidding will start on 25 September and will close on 9 October. The lot is estimated to fetch US$100,000-US$150,000, which Christie’s says makes it the “highest value lot ever to be offered in this category for an online sale”.

The Balvenie brand director Greg Levine said: “This is the first time The Balvenie has participated in an auction of this nature, and we’re thrilled to join forces with Christie’s to offer these incredibly outstanding rare whiskies, bespoke Morgan roadster and unique distillery experience to collectors, whisky enthusiasts, and anyone who appreciates fine craftsmanship.

“Combining the rare, collectable whiskies of The Balvenie DCS Compendium and a limited edition, custom roadster with a personalised tour of the distillery makes this a one-of-a-kind lot, and truly celebrates the spirit of The Balvenie.”

First unveiled in 2015, The Balvenie DCS Compendium will be released in five different “chapters”, each containing five different whiskies, over a five-year period.

This latest chapter – the fourth – has been curated around the theme of ‘expect the unexpected’ and “brings to life” the “mystery” of whisky maturation.
