Amaro di Angostura expands cocktail competition

Herbal liqueur Amaro di Angostura has expanded the reach of its Versus 2018 cocktail competition, with the number of countries competing increasing from two to 12.

The second Versus cocktail competition will be held in 12 countries

The competition, which launched last year in London, Milan and Rome, made its debut in Lithuania and Ukraine this summer.

Natasha Mustapha Scott, executive manager of marketing at the House of Angostura added: “Amaro di Angostura is a herbal liqueur which since it launched, has won approval of leading bartenders across the world.

“We wanted to create a competition which celebrated the versatility of Amaro di Angostura and really focus on what bartenders love about their trade – namely intensity, teamwork and fun! Versus is exactly that but also very technically challenging.”

Paris, London and north west England heats will take place in September. Heats in Malaysia, Sweden, Denmark, Hong Kong, Norway, Greece, Russia and Italy will also take place throughout October and November.

The London round will be held at the Reverend J W Simpson bar in Fitzrovia on Monday 24 September. Local bars competing include Laki Kane, Cahoots, Callooh Callay and the London Cocktail Club.

The north west England heat will feature The Liars Club, Manchester; Arcane, Manchester; Red Door, Liverpool; and Santa Chupitos, Liverpool. It will take place at The Liars Club on 26 September.

The winning bar teams from the London heat and the north west England heat will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the Athens Bar Show in November 2018.

Daniyel Jones, Amaro di Angostura global brand ambassador, said: “This competition is not for the faint hearted; it will be fast, skilful, competitive, intense and, above all, entertaining.”
