New distillery planned for Tasmania

Australian drinks producer Red Brick Road Group has submitted proposals for a AU$180,000 (US$131,434) distillery and cider house to be constructed in Tasmania.

Red Brick Road plans to transform a former car workshop into a distillery

The firm, which has been based in Deloraine, Tasmania, for the past two and a half years, has sent the plans to Meander Valley Council.

Under the proposals, Red Brick Road will repurpose a facility that was formerly used for car restoration. The site will include a distillery, bonded warehouse, cider production facility and visitor centre.

In a post on the group’s Facebook page, Red Brick Road said: “We’re really excited to be relocating there. Fingers crossed this means we’ll have enough space to make more cider (so we don’t run out at this time every year) and also to pack orders, which means we can finally turn that online shop on.
“We’re also excited to be using this new space as the home base for our latest cider experiment – Hells Gates Gin.”

The new product is set to become ‘Tasmania’s first cider-based gin’, according to Red Brick Road.
