Laphroaig 1967 Samaroli sells for record £61k

A new record has been set for a bottle of Laphroaig 1967 Samoroli 15 Year Old, which fetched £61,000 (US$78,500) at auction.

Laphroaig 1967 has sold for a record-breaking £61,000 at auction

The price beats the previous sale of a Laphroaig 1967 Samaroli in 2014 for £5,700 (US$7,347) – representing an over 240% increase in value.

One of only 720 bottles produced, the Laphroaig 1967 Samaroli 15 Year Old has been signed by the late Italian bottler Silvano Samaroli. It has been matured in Sherry casks for over 15 years.

The bottle, which went up for sale in an online auction held by Whisky Auctioneer, attracted 65 bids across the world with the winning bid coming from Germany.

Sean McGlone, director at Whisky Auctioneer, said: “The Laphroaig 1967 Samaroli was sure to draw a huge amount of attention and interest. Chances are few and far between to not only get a hold of this whisky widely regarded as incomparable in taste, but with the added uniqueness of the bottle being signed by the legendary Silvano Samaroli himself.”

“Following on the back of the record-breaking Samaroli from our auction last month – the Bowmore 1966 Bouquet – we are seeing an increase in demand in the market for rare and sought-after whiskies, particularly these admired bottlings from Samaroli.”

A record-breaking Bowmore 1966 Samaroli Bouquet was snapped up for £51,611 (US$68,367) at auction last month.
