Gin leads to most expensive drunken shopping sprees

Drunken shoppers spend the most on Amazon purchases while under the influence of gin, a survey has found.

Gin leads to the most drunken shopping, a survey claims

Florida rehab facility Archstone Recovery Centre surveyed more than 1,000 people in the US, asking them how much they have spent on drunken shopping sprees, what they ordered, and what they had consumed beforehand.

The survey found that on average, people spent US$82.40 when under the influence of gin, US$53.88 after drinking rum, US$50.50 after vodka, US$46.07 after white wine, US$42.03 after red wine, US$40.08 after Tequila, US$39.09 after beer and US$38.84 after whisky.

Gin was also found to be the number one culprit for people’s most expensive drunken purchases, with an average top amount of US$235. Whisky and Tequila followed at just below US$200.

However, Archstone Recovery Centre notes that “there’s no evidence that getting ‘gin drunk’ is any different from any other type of intoxication”.

The survey also found that on average, women have a higher drunken expenditure than men, at US$45.39 versus US$39.87.

The drunken Amazon purchase that led to the most regret was found to be mobile phones and accessories, followed by books and home/kitchenware.

People said their most enjoyable drunken purchase was musical instruments, followed by pet supplies and then health/household/baby items.

Some of the strangest drunken Amazon purchases include a 55-gallon drum of lubricant, equipment to perform coffee enemas, and breast and bottom enlargement pills.
