WhistlePig offers full barrels for purchase
American rye whiskey brand WhistlePig has launched Reserve Barrel, a barrel buying and whiskey customisation programme.
WhistlePig’s Reserve Barrel programme allows consumers to create bespoke expressions
The initiative allows consumers to create their own personalised whiskey using the brand’s 10- and 12-year-old rye expressions.
There are two options for the Reserve Barrel programme, which gives consumers the chance to choose their own barrel of WhistlePig rye whiskey.
Pricing for the 10-year-old expression starts at US$11,000 for each barrel, which will produce 132 bottles of cask strength rye whiskey.
Customers will be able to select a barrel containing their desired flavour profiles.
For The 12 Year Single Bespoke Blend, whiskey enthusiasts will be able to create their own blend of European cask-finished whiskies.
The 12-year-old blend is available with a Port, Sauternes or Madeira cask finish and is priced from US$16,000.
Both programmes include custom labels for the final bottlings and consumers can have the opportunity to interact with WhistlePig chief blender, Pete Lynch, if they choose to pick their barrel at the WhistlePig Farm in Shoreham, Vermont.
According to reports in Bloomberg last year, the Vermont-based rye whiskey producer invited interested parties to submit formal bids following takeover propositions.
