Villa Lobos unveils 10-year-old extra añejo Tequila
By Nicola CarruthersVilla Lobos Tequila has launched the fifth expression in its range – a 10-year-old extra añejo Tequila.
Villa Lobos Los Hombres 10-year-old is described as having a “spicy agave” flavourVilla Lobos Los Hombres 10 Year Old has been created by master distiller Carlos Camarena and family at Destileria La Alteña in Arandas, Jalisco.
The expression is made from 100% agave Tequila and “remains true” to the traditional methods La Alteña founder Don Felipe used more than 80 years ago.
Limited to 2,000 bottles, the expression is aged for 10 years in American oak barrels. It is bottled at 40% abv.
The company said it is unlikely that a new product will be made for at least six years, making the 10-year-old release a special addition to the range.
It is described as having a “spicy agave” flavour and aromas with the “depth and complexity” of a sipping whisky or Cognac.
Spirits expert Philip Duff describes Villa Lobos Los Hombres 10 Year Old as having a “huge palate of rich agave, coffee, tobacco and dark cacao”.
It has an RRP of €179–€189 (US$199-$240).
