Old Curiosity launches new colour-changing gins

Edinburgh’s Old Curiosity Distillery has released two new colour-changing gin flavours to coincide with the opening of its new botanical garden.

Two new flavours: Geranium & Mallow and Damask Rose

Only 500 bottles of the new expressions – Geranium & Mallow and Damask Rose – are available from Harvey Nichols stores nationwide at an RRP of £60 (US$79) per 500ml. Both are bottled at 46% abv.

The Old Curiosity Geranium & Mallow is made with juniper, coriander, angelica and winter savoury, then infused with distilled geraniums. Mallow flowers are later added to create a clear gin that turns pink when mixed with tonic water.

The Old Curiosity Damask Rose is made with the same gin base as Geranium & Mallow, before distilled petals of the damask rose are added. The final liquid is a pale gold spirit that turns into “powerful pink” when tonic water is added.

The botanical garden opened at the end of June and is located within the 7.5-acre Secret Herb Garden at the foot of the Pentland Hills on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

The brand hopes gin fans will use the garden to explore the botanicals that make The Old Curiosity Distillery’s gins.

Hamish Martin, director of The Old Curiosity Distillery, said: “All the work that we do at The Old Curiosity Distillery and at the garden is made with the highest respect and love for nature.

“Since launching our gin range, we’ve been striving to open the distillery to the public and share with them the wonderful environment we’re blessed to work in and the passion that characterises every single one of our activities.”

The Old Curiosity released its first trio of colour-changing gins in February this year, comprising Apothecary Rose, Lavender & Echinacea, and Chamomile & Cornflower.
