Hottest bar openings in June 2018

As the UK basked in record breaking temperatures, June seemed to be the perfect time to open a rooftop bar or summer terrace. In fact, nations around the world celebrated summer with a host of new venues for imbibers to enjoy.

Officers Club opened its doors in Denver this month

With another record-breaking month of hot weather in the UK, it’s no surprise that this month’s list features a fair few al fresco spots.

But for those who enjoy a roof over their cocktails, June also saw a retro arcade bar open in Singapore and a new permanent home for shuffleboard in London.

Red Sky Bar, Glasgow

Opening in Glasgow’s historic shipyards, Red Sky Bar boasts stunning views of the river Clyde, innovative cocktails and a range of small plates.

Glasgow’s latest rooftop bar is all vibrant colours and cool urban decor. The spot is perfect for a quiet after-work drink, and at weekends hosts DJs from 6pm till late.

Chiringuito Blue, Ibiza

Chiringuito Blue is Ibiza’s newest beach-side bar, and it comes with a focus on sustainability.

The island venue aims to be completely plastic-free and uses local produce where possible in its food and drink offerings.

Chiringuito Blue’s all-day menu has been created by Haim Cohen, a judge on MasterChef Israel, and brings a taste of the eastern Med to the white isle.

London Shuffle, London

After hosting a series of pop-ups across London, London Shuffle has set up a new permanent home in Shoreditch.

The new home focusses on classic floor shuffleboard and also offers a changing cocktail menu and guest ales, as well as live music.

It also features the UK’s first ever open-air shuffleboard terrace.

Officers Club, Denver

Denver’s latest neighbourhood bar celebrates the history of a local airforce base with a modern take on the classic officers’ club.

Officers Club boasts a central communal table, as well as leather-lined booths and seats at the bar, where guests can enjoy classic American dishes as well as killer cocktails and a selection of wines.

The bar’s cocktail menu celebrates the Old Fashioned, offering 10 varieties of the drink – including a Honey Old Fashioned and one made with gin.

Rat Bar, London

London’s latest pop-up venue has taken over Waterloo’s railway arches celebrating all things graffiti.

Rat Bar features an original Banksy mural and embraces the central London location. The cocktail list pays homage to Banksy’s Giant Rat, with signature drinks including El Raton, Black Death and You Dirty, Double Crossing Rat gracing the menu.

Nineteen80, Singapore

Nineteen80 is a retro-themed arcade bar paying tribute to all things 1980s.

The bar boasts a selection of classic arcade games, nostalgic cocktails and a playlist full of classic funk.

It has a drinks menu that showcases iconic serves and cocktails created to honour some of the biggest names from the ’80s, including Donna Summer and Wham!’s Club Tropicana.

Savage Garden, London

 

Opening at the DoubleTree by Hilton at the Tower of London is the capital’s latest rooftop destination.

Set 12 storeys above the concrete jungle below, Savage Garden offers jaw-dropping views, dramatic cocktails and inventive small plates.

The new venue boasts two terraces with views of St Paul’s cathedral, the Gherkin and the Tower of London. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy cocktails such as the Evil Eye, made with Tequila, vermouth, Luxardo Bitter Bianco and Jägermeister.

Store Room, Melbourne

The Store Room has opened its doors in a former barber shop in Melbourne.

The eclectic cocktail bar is filled with intriguing collectibles, but to enter and discover this for yourself you’ll have to dial up the automated phone inside the doorway and request entry.

Featuring marble basins and benches, retro lamps and an Arne Jacobsen armchair strapped to the wall, the Store Room is the ideal location for a cosy date or relaxed Friday night drinks.

FEST Camden, London

FEST Camden is a multi-faceted venue housed in a 200-year-old horse hospital at Camden Stables Market.

The immersive space offers a diverse mix of indoor and outdoor entertainments, from cocktails to cabaret; dancing to dining.

This refurbished space incorporates a nightclub and live music hall, lush rooftop garden with an outdoor bar, a cabaret club with magical in-house shows and a pizza restaurant with mouthwatering daily dishes.

Kens Bar & Gardens, London

Kens Bar & Garden has opened its Secret Beach in the heart of London for imbibers to soak up the sun.

The beach is furnished with a mix of sun loungers, cosy cabanas and beach sofas, while ‘beach boys’ provide visitors with beach necessities like towels and flip flops.

Guests can also share a Mediterranean-inspired platter with a three-litre sharing cocktail, or enjoy classic fish and chips. There are a variety of salad options for those looking for something lighter.
