Corazón launches bespoke Tequila barrel programme

Sazerac is offering retailers and consumers the chance to create customised barrels of Corazón Tequila.

Corazón has launched a bespoke Tequila barrel programme

As part of the programme, customers first purchase a Bourbon barrel from either the Buffalo Trace or Barton 1792 distilleries to age their Tequila.

These barrels were previously used to age Bourbon brands including Buffalo Trace Bourbon, Eagle Rare, Weller Special Reserve, Blanton’s Single Barrel and 1792 Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon.

Customers then choose to have their Tequila aged as a reposado or anejo. The spirit will spend between six and 11 months in the barrel if a single barrel reposado, and 12 to 24 months if a single barrel añejo.

The customised Tequila will be hand-bottled with a premium neck hanger that features the barrel purchaser’s own logo and specific details of the barrel.

“It’s a one-of-a-kind way to follow your barrel from Bourbon to Tequila,” said barrel select manager Beau Beckman. “At the end of the process you’ll end up with unique bottles of Bourbon and Tequila from the same barrel.”

The average barrel yields 35-40 cases of 750ml bottles, packed six to a case. The suggested retail price per bottle of Corazón Single Barrel Reposado is US$40, while Corazón Single Barrel Añejo is US$45.
