Oriole unveils Top Trumps-style cocktail menu

London-based bar Oriole has launched a new cocktail list inspired by “exotic climes” and presented with vintage-style Top Trumps cards.

Guests can play the retro card game as they sip their drinks

Developed by Luca Cinalli and Grabriele Manfredi, the menu takes inspiration from the “adventurous spirit of a bygone era of global discovery”.

The drinks included draw on the ingredients and flavours of the Old World (Europe and Africa) and New World (The Americas).

Within the deck of cards, ‘values’ are presented as ratings for each cocktail’s flavour profile (Refreshment, Booziness, Complexity and Fruitiness), which not only help guests select their beverage but can also be used to play the retro card game.

The list is split into four sections: Old World, New World, The Orient and For Sharing. While updated for 2018, it features some classic serves from previous menus.

Highlights include the “smooth and buttery” Acadia, made with Woodford Reserve, Roots Tentura liqueur, maple syrup, peanut butter, and grapefruit juice; and the Garden of England, a combination of Martin Miller’s Gin, vegetable pasata, piquillo wine, seasoning reduction and lemon juice.

Drinks are presented in Oriole’s signature creative style with custom-built vessels and exotic garnishes.

Opened in November 2015 by Rosie Stimpson and Edmund Weil in Smithfield Market, Oriole is the sister site to Shoreditch bar Nightjar. The leading venue has been longlisted in Tales of the Cocktail’s 2018 Spirited Awards for Best International High Volume Cocktail Bar.
