NB Gin opens ‘luxury’ distillery in Scotland
By Amy HopkinsNB Gin has opened the doors of its new distillery and visitor experience in the seaside town of Berwick, East Lothian.
NB Gin’s distillery has opened following growing demand
The Scottish gin brand received planning permission for its new distillery last year, announcing its intention to move to a 24-hour operation following “overwhelming” demand at home and overseas.
Based at Halfland Barns, near Tantallon Castle, NB Distillery offers a “luxury” guest experience that includes bespoke tours and sampling.
Canapés produced by award-winning local chef, JP MacLachlan, who has previously worked with top chefs Raymond Blanc, Martin Wishart and Gordon Ramsay, will be offered as part of the experience.
The distillery is said to be ‘energy neutral’, with solar panels, lighting and heating, and a plan to capture rainwater to use in the condensation process of production.
“As with everything we do at NB, we wanted to do something more than just the stock standard tour,” Vivienne Muir, CEO of NB Gin, said last year.
“When visitors come to the new distillery, we want it to feel like you’re coming for a drink and food at our home. We also plan to take advantage of East Lothian’s incredible produce to complement the luxury feel to the distillery.”
NB Gin recently launched in the US and expects to exceed sales of £4 million (US$3.5m) in the market over the next five years.
