Glasgow Distillery Co to double whisky production
By Nicola CarruthersThe Glasgow Distillery Company has secured a £6 million (US$7.9m) investment to double its capacity for whisky production.
The distillery started production of its inaugural single malt in 2015The Makar Gin producer received the investment from private investors and the Clydesdale Bank.
The funding will provide the distillery with more stills and allow it to invest in other areas of the business. The distillery’s annual whisky production is set to increase to one million bottles from 2019.
In addition, the distillery recently sold out of its inaugural Scotch whisky, 1770 Glasgow Single Malt, following “phenomenally huge demand”.
The expression was laid down in first fill ex-Bourbon casks and finished for a short period in virgin oak to deliver “a clean, full flavour”. 1770 Glasgow Single Malt was available to purchase via an online ballot for £100 per 500ml bottle.
The Glasgow Distillery Company is the first independent single malt-producing distillery based in the city since 1902. It was founded by Liam Hughes, Ian McDougall and Mike Hayward in 2012.
The distillery started production of its inaugural single malt in 2015.
