Woodford Reserve adds straight malt to range
By Nicola CarruthersBrown-Forman has added a new permanent expression to its Woodford Reserve range, a straight malt whiskey based on historical recipes.
Woodford Reserve Straight Malt Whiskey is bottled at 90.4 proofWoodford Reserve Straight Malt Whiskey is crafted from 51% malted barley – unlike a typical 100% malt whiskey – plus 47% corn and 2% rye. The expression has been aged in new charred oak barrels.
The malt base results in a whiskey that is “richly flavourful and complex” and intensifies the nutty notes found in Woodford Reserve.
On the nose, it has soft nutty notes drizzled with light caramel, milk chocolate and a fruit character. While the palate has hints of dark chocolate and caramel coated nuts, cocoa powder and brown spice.
“Inspired by history and a desire to make the best tasting whiskies in the world, Woodford Reserve is charting its own unique path with this new malt whiskey based on historical precedence and our commitment to flavour, something that’s ingrained in everything we do,” said master distiller Chris Morris.
In May last year, Woodford Reserve expanded its Distillery Series with the launch of a blended rye whiskey.
