Tamdhu releases single cask to mark 120 years
Ian Macleod Distillers is celebrating the 120th anniversary of Tamdhu Distillery with the launch of a single cask whisky selected by the distillery’s team.
Tamdhu Single Cask Distillery Team Edition marks the 120th anniversary of the Speyside distillery
Limited to 603 bottles, Tamdhu Single Cask Distillery Team Edition has been bottled at cask strength and matured in a European oak first-fill Sherry butt.
The 15-strong Tamdhu distillery team blind-tasted a range of ages and cask types to find the one they thought would be best suited to mark the anniversary.
The expression is said to have notes of toffee, apple, dates and raisins on the nose, while the palate leads into butterscotch with marmalade orange and fruitiness.
Sandy McIntyre, distillery manager at Speyside-based Tamdhu Distillery, said: “The distillery team had a lot of fun nosing and tasting nine samples and voting for their favourites.
“The final top three were then selected for a blind nosing and tasting, and ranked by each of the team members to agree on the winning cask.”
Tamdhu Single Cask Distillery Team Edition is a distillery exclusive available online at www.tamdhu.com for an RRP of £250 (US$342) per 700ml bottle.
The news follows the launch of the brand’s oldest bottling to date – a 50-year-old single malt also created to celebrate the 120th anniversary of Tamdhu.
