It didn’t take long for Irish whiskey fans to snap up the limited edition 32-year-old Redbreast Dream Cask, which sold out in six hours.

Irish Distillers released the single pot still Irish whiskey expression at 4pm on 19 May, World Whisky Day, through The Redbreast Birdhouse.

By 10.30pm that same day, all 816 bottles of the coveted release had been sold – that’s more than two bottles per minute.

Redbreast Dream Cask was originally revealed as part of a Facebook Live whiskey tasting event for last year’s World Whisky Day.

The expression is made from single pot still Irish whiskey, which was filled into refill American oak ex-Bourbon barrels in 1985. After 26 years of maturation, the whiskey was then transferred into a first-fill oloroso Sherry butt for further ageing.

Dream Cask is described as “smooth with wood resin notes, lots of ripe fresh fruit flavours and an extremely balanced finish”.

The whiskey carried an RRP of €500 per 500ml bottle.
