Raven Spirits launches Norse mythology-inspired gins

Aberdeen-based gin producer Raven Spirits has unveiled its first two expressions, each inspired by Norse mythology.

Founded by brothers Callum and Peter Sim, the first gins from Raven Spirits will be Thought and Memory and Founder’s Edition.

Each expression has been inspired by a pair of ravens belonging to Norse god Odin, called Huginn and Muninn, which mean ‘thoughts’ and ‘memory’ respectively.

Callum Sim has spent more than two decades working as a lawyer in the energy sector, while Peter Sim has worked within hospitality for more than 30 years.

Peter Sim said: “Having been involved in the hospitality and alcohol trades for many years, I have seen first-hand the boom in the popularity of Scottish gins.

“With my experience, I’m often asked why I haven’t yet produced a gin but, like Callum, I wasn’t prepared to launch anything that wasn’t absolutely perfect – and that takes time.”

Raven Gin is distilled with six “traditional” botanicals and is said to have a “sweet citrus hint of delicate mandarin” that delivers a “balanced” flavour.

Callum Sim added: “For us, it’s about authenticity and quality. No gimmicks, just a damn fine dram that I am proud to put my name to.”

Thought and Memory is bottled at 45% abv and carries a RRP of £35 per 500ml bottle, while Founder’s Edition is bottled at 47% abv and retails at £40 per 500ml bottle.

Raven Spirits has plans to release further limited edition expressions as well as a Navy Strength bottling.
