Maker’s Mark unveils Seared Bu Bourbon
Maker’s Mark Bourbon has released a limited-edition single stave-finished expression, called Seared Bu 1-3.
Maker’s Mark Seared Bu 1-3 is finished with 10 virgin seared and sous-vide French oak staves
Limited to 1,400 bottles, Maker’s Mark Seared Bu 1-3 will be the first expression the Bourbon maker has ever made available in such limited quantity.
The Bourbon has been developed as a “potential second generation offering” for the Maker’s Mark Private Select programme.
Created following the “incredible reception” of the first-of-its-kind barrel programme, Seared Bu 1-3 was developed within the Maker’s Mark wood lab.
The Bourbon has notes of “butterscotch and honey” as a result of the 10 virgin seared and sous-vide French oak staves used to create the expression.
On the palate, it has a “dark, rich and creamy mouthfeel” with notes of toffee and honey with a “silky” finish.
As the Seared Bu 1-3 stave did not “entirely complement” the other staves in the programme, Maker’s Mark said that it is not planning to put it into production but “wanted to share what they had”.
Bottled at 55.3% abv, the expression will be available at Maker’s Mark Distillery and select Kentucky retailers at a RRP of US$39.99 per 375ml bottle.
