The distillery has received a £145,000 (US$197,000) grant from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development to go towards the build.

The remainder of the funding will be raised through a Crowdcube campaign, which opened last week.

The distillery hopes that the creation of a new visitor centre will allow it to offer a wider range of experiences to visitors, including tastings and evening events.

The visitor centre will feature tastings rooms, an expanded shop, an “interactive” exhibition space, a café and a viewing area where drop-in visitors can have a peak at the distilling process when tours are fully booked.

Currently, the distillery welcomes nearly 30,000 visitors a year and runs three tours a day.

Dan Szor, founder and CEO of the Cotswolds Distillery said: “We are thrilled with this marvellous vote of confidence from the UK Government, which will allow us to enhance our award-winning visitor offering.

“We’re looking forward to completing our visitors’ centre project and really creating a destination that brings people to the area, showcasing this stunning region that’s so dear to us.

“This grant really shows that the government fully backs our vision and recognises the far-reaching benefits that this kind of investment can have on the wider rural economy of the north Cotswolds.”

Last year, The Cotswolds Distillery raised more than £1.5 million (US$1.8m) in one month to expand its site.
