Corazón Tequila has created a limited edition range of Tequilas aged in ex-whiskey casks

The collection includes the Buffalo Trace Distillery Old 22 Añejo (40% abv), which was matured for at least 22 months in Buffalo Trace Distillery Bourbon barrels that once held 22-year-old whiskey.

It is described as having notes of toasted caramel, cooked agave, toasted oak, vanilla and light ginger, and carries an RRP of US$79.99.

Sazerac Rye Añejo (45% abv) was matured for 24 months in Sazerac Rye barrels, and is said to be “velvety sweet”, with caramel, nuts and citrus flavours. It comes with an RRP of US$79.99.

George T. Stagg Añejo (40% abv) has been left to age for 22 months in George T. Stagg Bourbon barrels, said to have imparted flavours of cinnamon, chocolate and green apple. This Tequila is priced at RRP US$79.99.

Lastly, the Artisanal Blanco (40% abv) was rested for 60 days in stainless steel and offers flavours of mint, eucalyptus and a “slightly tangy” taste. It has an RRP of US$59.99.

Megan Hurtuk, Tequila marketing manager for Sazerac, said: “We believe that artistry of ageing is a big part of what makes Tequila so spectacular and we’re so lucky that our partners at [Tequila distillery] Casa San Matías welcome the opportunity to experiment and have the expertise to create phenomenal spirits.

“This year’s release of Expresiones del Corazón is truly unique and feels extra special to us – we cannot wait for everyone to experience these Tequilas.”
