Woodford Reserve unveils silver and gold Julep cups

Kentucky Bourbon brand Woodford Reserve has unveiled two limited-edition Mint Julep cups, one made from sterling silver and another plated with 24 karat gold.

The gold-plated and sterling silver Julep cups cost US$2,500 and US$1,000 respectively

The cups, crafted by Louisville-based jeweller From the Vault, are adorned with designs representative of Kentucky – including the twin spires of the Kentucky Derby racetrack and lines running around the cup that symbolise the limestone-filtered water used to make Woodford Reserve.

The cups, which cost US$1,000 and US$2,500 respectively, also feature three embossed designs to represent this year’s Derby: a thoroughbred horse and jockey, a bottle of Woodford Reserve, and a rose.

Mark Bacon, Woodford Reserve global brand director, said: “Woodford Reserve is honoured to bring together two of Kentucky’s greatest traditions, Derby and Bourbon, through our US$1,000 Mint Julep cup programme.”

Each cup will be presented in a wooden box lined with silk, similar to those worn by jockeys competing in the Kentucky Derby.

Cup buyers will have access to the Woodford Reserve Mint Julep Tent and Bar on derby day, where they will receive their handcrafted Mint Julep.

Money raised from the sale of each Julep cup will be donated to the Jennifer Lawrence Arts Fund, which was created in 2016 by Louisville native and actress Jennifer Lawrence.

Meredith Lawrence, director of the fund, said: “The Jennifer Lawrence Arts Fund is proud to partner with Woodford Reserve, whose own story represents the very best of Kentucky. We are passionate about leveraging the transformative power of the arts in Kentucky and beyond.”
