Martell ‘reinvents’ Cognac category with Blue Swift

Pernod Ricard-owned Martell has launched a Cognac-based spirit drink finished in Kentucky Bourbon casks – thought to be the first of its kind to enter the market.

Martell Blue Swift celebrates the brand’s ties with the US

Martell Blue Swift is made of VSOP Cognac, matured in French oak casks and finished in Kentucky Bourbon casks. The expression is described as “reinventing” the Cognac category.

The expression celebrates the brand’s historic ties with the US, with Martell being the first Cognac house to ship its barrels to America from 1783.

The new offering has Martell’s signature notes of candied fruit and plum, in addition to the “subtle sweetness” of vanilla and toasted oak.

Martell Blue Swift is recommended served neat, on the rocks, or in classic cocktails.

The design of the bottle “unites old world and new” with the cylinder of its bottle reminiscent of the shape of Bourbon casks, and the ‘cut-glass’ detail on its base evoking crystal decanters.

The expression made its debut at the inaugural Cognac Show, held in London last week.

Martell Blue Swift is priced at £45.00 (US$61.80) and is available to buy from The Whisky Exchange, Waitrose and Ocado.com.
