Ian Macleod unveils Smokehead High Voltage

Ian Macleod Distillers has added a new expression to its peated Smokehead Scotch whisky range at the same time as unveiling a new look for the brand.

Smokehead has been given a design overhaul

Smokehead High Voltage, bottled at 58% abv, joins the original Smokehead whisky (43% abv) and is available at an RRP of £54.99.

High Voltage is said to have “intense” peat, smoke, maritime air, porridge oats, vanilla and toffee aromas. On the palate, the whisky delivers flavours of smoke, nuts, brine and citrus with an oily texture that becomes creamier after some time.

The finish is said to leave the mouth “almost in shock, numb and tingling”, with sweetness, fading smoke and a salty tang.

Ian Weir, brand director for Smokehead, said: “Smokehead has always challenged the traditional whisky world with its unconventional look and attitude, appealing to the younger and adventurous whisky drinker.

“We’ve turned up the volume right across the brand. It’s not for everyone, but that’s ok.

“If Smokehead is an assault on your senses, then High Voltage is an all-out attack. Louder, bolder and more intense than getting put in a headlock from an angry roadie.”

The new packaging design for the Smokehead series now features a more “dominant” skull logo on the bottle’s label, with smoke blowing through the skull to create an “element of defiance”. The bottle is presented in a gift tin.
